Margaret Sheehan, LMFT

Margaret Sheehan is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist at Brickel and Associates, LLC, in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Margaret graduated with a Master’s in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 1996. Within the framework of a strengths-based and hope-focused perspective, she helps clients struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, unhealthy relationships, grief, loss and acculturation issues, as well as strengthen self-awareness and wholeness.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she particularly emphasizes equipping her clients with strategies to create and maintain healthy relationships now and in the future.  Her approach begins by helping her clients feel safe and comfortable in a non-judgmental environment.  Once a strong, therapeutic bond is established, she guides her clients in identifying the main issues and finding solutions based on their unique circumstances and desired outcome.

Margaret has extensive experience working with clients who have experienced complex trauma. Through this work, she has witnessed the transformative power of therapy.

In addition, she is committed to helping families thrive through the creation of a strong marital foundation, as well as having them gain confidence and the necessary skills as parents. She will take an active role in helping you feel understood and supported by the ones you love.

In her work with individuals (adolescents and adults), couples and families, Margaret draws from a variety of therapies and methods, to include Humanistic Psychology, CBT, Mindfulness, trauma-informed therapy, Transpersonal Psychology and the Gottman Method Couple Therapy. Within the context of a caring therapeutic relationship, she strives to give her clients the psycho-education and skill-building necessary to make lasting and powerful changes in their lives.
