Maddison Pezzelle, MSSW, is a therapist at Brickel and Associates, LLC in Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia.
Maddison believes that therapy is a collaborative process where healing begins with safe and authentic relationships that allow for curiosity, humor, and non-judgmental exploration of thoughts and feelings. She understands the effect of trauma across the lifespan and pays particular attention to the impact of trauma on the self and interpersonal relationships. She works with clients to create an authentic space where they can explore their emotions safely, gain access to their insight and resilience, and interact with themselves and the world more compassionately.
Maddison’s experience working in trauma treatment over the years has led to her approach to care. She is a trauma-informed, strengths-based therapist who utilizes a non-judgmental, psychodynamic approach that includes attachment theory, Emotionally Focused Therapy, elements of CBT, DBT, and paced psychoeducation. Maddison works with clients on topics that include self-care, grounding, boundaries, and building safe relationships. She has worked with people experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, PTSD, CPTSD, and Dissociative Disorders, including suicidality, self-harm, eating disorders, and other mood disorders. Maddison continues to expand upon her knowledge in relational models of care during her work with couples. Maddison is also interested in working with new and expectant mothers, as she expands her focus and training towards maternal mental health.
Maddison graduated from Columbia University School of Social Work with her Masters of Science in Social work and considers herself a lifetime learner.
