Whitney's Biography

Whitney Noftsier is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and therapist at Brickel and Associates, LLC, in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.

Whitney strongly believes in the healing power of relationships—both in life and in therapy. She works collaboratively with each client to cultivate safety and trust in the therapeutic relationship. With compassion and empathy, she seeks to understand each client’s unique experiences and challenges, creating space for insight, healing, and meaningful change.

Whitney brings a deeply trauma-informed lens to her work, drawing on advanced clinical training and extensive experience supporting clients with trauma, complex trauma, and dissociation. She works with individuals, couples, and families to navigate the impact of painful life experiences, rebuild a sense of safety in the body and relationships, and foster resilience and self-compassion.

In her work with couples, Whitney helps partners understand the ways their histories and attachment patterns influence their relationship dynamics. She supports couples in creating deeper connection, mutual understanding, and healthier communication drawing on principles from Imago Relationship Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).

Whitney also has specialized training and experience in maternal and perinatal mental health, supporting individuals and couples through the transitions, challenges, and emotional experiences surrounding pregnancy, birth, and parenthood.

Whitney has worked with individuals of all ages in a variety of settings including schools, home-based programs, outpatient mental health agencies, and military installations. She has extensive experience treating issues such as complex trauma, anxiety, depression, self-harm, relationship issues, substance use, and grief.

Her approach is eclectic and strengths-based, as well as trauma-informed,  integrating evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), and mindfulness-based interventions. Whitney is passionate about cultural humility and is committed to ongoing learning to better understand how racial identity, sexual orientation, gender identity, and cultural or religious backgrounds shape each client’s lived experience and to cultivate an affirming and welcoming environment.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, Whitney regularly pursues advanced professional education. She has completed specialized training in trauma treatment, complex trauma and dissociation, perinatal mental health, and couples therapy.  She is currently engaged in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) approved training and looking forward to completion in January 2027.
